During Science Week, the children enjoyed a range of fun and
interactive activities, including creating a DIY lava volcano and
experimenting with color-changing flowers. For the volcano activity,
the children shaped playdough around a small container to form a
volcano, added baking soda, food dye, and a bit of dish soap inside,
and then poured in vinegar to create a bubbling “lava” eruption. This
simple experiment demonstrated the reaction between vinegar (acid)
and baking soda (base), producing carbon dioxide gas that causes the

fizzing effect.

In another experiment, the children explored how flowers absorb
water by placing white flowers, such as carnations, in cups filled with
water and different food dye colors. Over time, they watched the
flowers gradually change color as they absorbed the dyed water
through their stems. This activity helped them understand how plants
take in water and nutrients. Both activities were a hit, sparking
curiosity and excitement about science and the natural world!
